Minggu Keenam

On Monday when Bu Indra was absent, I met together with Tamsyn Butler and Christine Mueller to begin preparation for our group presentation in May. Our fourth member, Bree Swift , hadn't received notification by email and therefore did not attend. It was decided that, for the first part, I would be the Indonesian husband/father, Bree my wife, Christine our daughter and Tamsyn, a student from Australia. Part 1 will take place in a shopping mall, so that we can utilise upcoming shopping vocabulary as well as directionals. Part 2 will take place in our home, except that the father will be out driving a taxi. Instead, the girls thought it would be amusing for me to appear in a surprise cameo appearance that entails some gender-bending. Always ever-eager to make a complete fool of myself, I was happy to oblige.

On Wednesday we did some review in preparation for the upcoming exam. We went over the word order in possessives and then the use of adjectives to express personal opinions. Next we reenacted the dialogues from unit 3 with each student taking a turn to read a part. The increased fluency of nearly all of the students is clearly discernable. After the break, we reviewed the lengthy 6-page homework assignment that entailed three different stories with comprehension questions, most dealing with school, family, hobbies and daily timetables. In the lab we spent the first part in conversation with a partner discussing our favorite subjects and hobbies. Next we went to the University of Victoria Indonesian language website (see Links)doing some exercises using colors and descriptive adjectives in units 19,20, 22 and 23.
