WARUNG DI INDONESIAOn Monday we discussed the upcoming mid-semester exam and the assignment "Tentang Saya". The latter, which has been formulated and layered on this blog with each week's new vocabulary, I simply cut and pasted into a Word document and emailed to Bu Indra. We began unit 4 discussing new expressions used when shopping. We also learned usage of the demonstrative pronoun "yang", as well as simple conditionals with "kalau" (ex. "Kalau beli dua ketiga gratis." "Kalau begitu saya mau beli empat.") We were given three worksheets for homework, one of which entails a comprehensive review in preparation for the upcoming exam.

On Wednesday we went over the homework in class. Then we practiced in pairs an open dialogue between a salesperson and buyer, using vocabulary particularly related to sales and discount prices (Bu Indra's favorite). We were given adverstisements from Mata Hari in which we had to ask our partner for the sales prices of selected items. Afterwards, we watched an Indonesian video on daily shopping in the markets, shops and warungs in a typical Indonesian town. We had an accompanying worksheet with comprehension questions. In the lab we reviewed a website containing President Yudhoyono's speeches and then a 7- day course for basic Indonesian language skills, most of which we had been covered in class. We then saw a video clip of the song "Ada Apa Denganmu" by the Indonesian rock group Peter Pan written by lead singer Ariel. All the class practiced singing along.
