MOSH INC. - FOR COOL GIRLS ONLY!
MAKAN DARI MAL KELAPA GADINGWe started lesson 7 in Bersama-sama Lagi. We learned several adverbs of frequency:
sering- often
biasanya-usually
kadang-kadang-sometimes
jarang- rarely
belum pernah- never(yet)
We also learned some new verbs with which to exercise in conversation the usage of these adverbs. Among them were:
berenang- to swim
main kriket- to play cricket
berolahraga- to play sports
belanja- to shop
berselancar- to surf
berselancar angin -to wind surf
main papan roda- to skate borad
nonton televisi/ video- to watch TV/video
We also surveyed our classmates using the structures "belum pernah" and/or "sudah pernah". For example:
Apa kamu belum pernah main ski air? (Have you ever water skied?)
Ya, saya sudah pernah main ski air? (Yes, I have water-skied.)
Tidak, saya belum pernah main ski air. (No, I have never water skied.)
We then proceeded to survey our classmates as to the frequency of these actions and to record the results. In the second lesson, we went over the textbook dialogues, vocabulary and did several exercise worksheets. We also discussed the format of the final exam and made time-and-date arrangements for our oral exam. We then discussed the final day of week 14 when we perform our last assessment task, i.e. the role-playing in a Group Presentation. We will have a celebration of Indonesian foods thereafter and made voluntary arrangements to facilitate this, each student offering to bring in a type of finger-food.

After a brief review of structures from the previous lessons, we had a quiz on lessons 5 and 6. When the quiz was completed, we reviewed homework from the previous lesson. We then watched a video in Indonesian that displayed the contrast between the lifestyles of a young Indonesian girl from a wealthy family and a boy from the poorer quarter of Jakarta. The discrepancy is blatant, to say the least. As I had an appointment, I did not stay for lab period but did those exercises, most of them in the format of computer games, at home (from the University of Victoria website). We also explored the website of the Mal Kelapa Gading, an enormous and luxurious shopping-mall in Jakarata, as well as that of the store Matahari.
